Minister of the Interior, Abdülkadir Aksu, stated that out of 358,335 people who had to abandon their villages for security reasons, 137,636 people have returned home. The return was made possible thanks to the ‘Return to villages and Rehabilitation Project’ carried out in 14 provinces around Turkey.

Aksu attended a meeting held at the Dedeman Hotel in Istanbul for the presentation of the ‘Support Project for the Improvement of the Internally Displaced Persons Programme in Turkey’, a joint effort piloted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Turkish Ministry of the Interior.
Aksu stated that to date, a total of 52,684,513 YTL, obtained from the national budget, the special provincial administration budget and social aid as well as solidarity foundations, had been allocated to spending on the programme. He pointed out that including the amount spent on the infrastructure for the programme, total expenditure exceeded 100 million YTL.
