Turkish President Abdullah Gul discussed the Gaza issue in a telephone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak on Monday.
Gul and Mubarak exchanged views on efforts for a national unity among the Palestinians as well as recent developments in the region, the Turkish president's press office said in a statement.Â
The Turkish president "stressed that Turkey supported Egypt's efforts to that end and that the country is ready to make any contributions if such a need arises," the statement quoted Gul as telling Mubarak.
Gul and Mubarak declared last month their commitment to joint efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire in Gaza following their meeting in Istanbul. The two leaders also emphasized that it was important to resolve the division between Hamas and Fatah in order to attain a permanent solution in the region.
