I still cannot forget the things said by Turkish artist Bulent Ersoy that evening. In fact, I even wrote a column about his statements.

Bulent Ersoy was speaking later on a television program.           Â

There was a photograph of former President Turgut Ozal hanging in the salon, and Ersoy was reading prayers to the memory of Ozal.

And in truth, it is a reality that during the years when Bulent Ersoy (who is a Turkish artist that underwent a sex change from a man to a woman years ago), Ozal did as much as he could to lift bans that were placed on Ersoy from appearing on stage.

That was the Ozal was.....a truly brave politician.

And Ersoy is (now) a brave woman. Who does not stop herself from expressing things she feels inside. As we have now seen.

* * *

For three days now, we have heard debates about what Ersoy said regarding the northern Iraq land operation. (Ersoy said something along the lines of "if I had a son, I wouldn't send him to fight.")

But a voice inside me warns: keep quiet on this one, because while those youth are fighting there, we need to not talk about this.

So it seems to me that with our youth fighting terror in the mountains over there, it is wrong, almost traitorous, for us to be sitting in our warm living rooms in front of the television, talking about the meaninglessness of war.

While I don't have any objections to the words of others on this topic, I will keep my thoughts to myself until our troops are back in their barracks in Turkey.

This is my own private calculation.

This is my own conscience.
