The privatization of energy production should not be delayed until the privatization of energy distribution grids, the Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (TUSIAD) said in its Energy Strategy Report on Thursday.

"Turkey's Energy Ministry plans to boost investments to increase capacity in the energy sector by 150 percent before 2020. In order to reach this goal, Turkey needs to speed up the privatization process," said TUSIAD in the report published on its website.

TUSIAD's report also mentioned that power production should be privatized immediately to have an impact on the creation of a free market.

The problems faced during safe level supply of the energy sector in Turkey exist because of a failure to follow the liberalization process in the country as planned, TUSIAD said. The delay in liberalization leaves Turkey at risk of insufficient energy supply, the report added.

There is a need for a solid strategy in power generation that would result in confidence and the clearing of uncertainties, TUSIAD also said in its energy report.
