Eurostat, the European Union's statistics institution, has announced that Istanbul is Europe's most crowded city with a population of 9,898,000 people.

Istanbul tops the list of 26 European cities with populations exceeding one million, Anatolian Agency reported Tuesday citing the research.Â

 

Three Turkish cities are among Europe's most crowded cities with Ankara ranking forth at 3,402,000 and Izmir ranking ninth with a population of 2,387,000.

 

A total of 65 million people live in Europe's 26 biggest cities.Â
