"Nobody has been injured or killed... There is no information about environmental pollution either," the head of the maritime department in the coastal city of Canakkale, Ender Kurt, was quoted as saying by Anatolia.

  Â

The cause of the accident -- in international waters some 10 nautical miles off Bozcaada island, close to the Dardanelles Strait -- was not immediately known.

  Â

One of the vessels -- the Malta-registered Marti Princess which was on its way from Turkey to France with some 8,000 tons of cement -- sustained damage and was taking in water, but was not in danger of sinking, officials said.
