Turkey still awaiting explanation on Israeli general's remarks: FM

The recent remarks made by the Israeli Ground Forces Commander Avi Mizrahi were not beneficial and Turkey expected a comprehensive statement from Israel on the matter, Babacan was quoted by the Anatolian Agency as telling reporters in Ankara before his departure for Yemen.Â

 

"It is quite easy to increase the tension with such statements," he said referring to the Israeli general's harsh remarks on Erdogan.

 

Mizrahi said last week Erdogan, who severely criticized Israel's military campaign in Gaza, "should first look in the mirror", and accused Turkey of "committing a massacre of Armenians, as well as suppression of the Kurds".

 

After Mizrahi's remarks, Turkey summoned the Israeli ambassador to the Foreign Ministry and handed a note of protest demanding clarification, while the military denounced them as "excessive, unfortunate and unacceptable".
