MARMARİS - The tide in the Orhaniye village of the Marmaris district of Muğla has exposed the shore of Kızkumu, famous for its red sands. The sea ebbed around 80 meters and the entire Kızkumu shore and rocks in the sea emerged. People rushed to the sea to see the shore exposed.

Orhaniye Muhktar Arif Ulupınar said the sea had last receded that far in 1957. Villagers were very worried about the tide, Ulupınar said, adding, "The sea recedes every year in December. However, since 1957, the sea has never ebbed as much as it has this time. In 1957, the sea receded a bit more than this and an earthquake occurred. For that reason, villagers are worried."

Muğla University’s water products faculty dean, Professor Ahmet Nuri Tarkan, said: "There is no need to worry about it. The sea can ebb much more. It is not abnormal. It is just a tide."
