President Abdullah Gul and his wife, Hayrunnisa Gul, were hosted at a formal state dinner in their honor last night by Azerbayjiani President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mihriban Aliyev at the Baku Gulistan Presidential Palace. President Gul commented yesterday on his committment to creating further bridges between Turkey and other Turkish republics, noting "In the first week of December, I will visit Turkmenistan.

After that come Uzbekistan and Khirgyzstan. Of course, these nations might have the fear of 'Turkey is a huge country, are they coming to crush us?'...."

Gul's comments in Baku yesterday also touched on Turkey's ongoing tensions with Armenia. Speaking before the Azeri Parliament yesterday, he said:

"For as long as the parliaments of other nations continue their own evaluations of the events of 1915, there can be no expectation of normalization in the relations between Turkey and Armenia."
