US Secretary of State Rice refers to northern Iraqi region as "Kurdistan"
 US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice referred to the northern Iraqi border region as "Kurdistan" in statements made before the US Senate's Committee on Appropriations earlier this week.
In an explanation to committee members about what implications possible talks between Ankara and Iraqi Kurdish leaders could have, Rice said "The PKK, which is active on the border between Turkey and Kurdistan, is responsible for terror attacks on Turkish soil." Rice's comments came in response to a question from US Senator from Colorado Wayne Allard in regards to whether there was truth to reports that Ankara and Iraqi Kurdish officials might be meeting for talks.
Rice also used her comments before the US Senate members to describe the function of the 3 way mechanism put together by Turkey, the US, and Iraq to fight PKK terorr.
