Istanbul skies turn red for Air Race

Today the Istanbul skies will host the Red Bull Air Race, one of the biggest aviation events in recent years. Special gateways have been set up for the Istanbul leg, which takes place between the Old Galata Bridge and Atatürk Bridge, both situated on the Golden Horn.

Peter Besenyei, a Hungarian pilot who founded the race and is competing in Istanbul, said that although his fellow pilots initially thought the course was “Very easy, we can handle it”, they discovered it was not so forgiving during trials. Delighted to be flying in such a historical city, Besenyei said the Istanbul leg has special importance. “The Istanbul leg of the race is going to be very exciting, because all the pilots want to be champion of the Istanbul leg rather than the whole race.”
