Danish PM Rasmussen: "I was surprised at Erdogan's reaction"

Danish Prime Minister Rasmussen, speaking to reporteres yesterday, made clear his surprise at Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan's abrupt departure from a joint press conference they had been giving. PM Erdogan left the prime minister offices where the press had gathered after discovering that two representatives from Kurdish backed Roj TV were present in the press corps.
Said Rasmussen: "I understand Turkey's sensitivity on the subject of terrorism, but I am surprised at Erdogan's reaction."
Rasmussen: "Government cannot be held responsible for content of newspapers"
Referring to incidents in the past when Erdogan has opened suits against magazine caricaturists for pictures he claimed were libelous, Rasmussen said "I spoke with him about the caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed in the newspapers. A government cannot be held responsible for things which are printed in the newspapers. Countries which are applying for entrance into the EU must bring all of the criteria necessary into line, including freedom of the press. This goes for Turkey too."
