It has emerged that the Turkish government was warned months ago about the possibility of the deadly bird flu hitting the center of Turkey's white meat poultry production region, Balikesir.

The warning was apparently issued by Balikesir's own MP, Turan Comez, who in a speech on May 16 in the Turkish Parliament (TBMM), said "Many of the world's birds stop during flight in the 'Bird Paradise' in Manyas. It is very important for our country to protect itself from this virus, which has caused billions of dollars in loss for other countries. It is an absolute requirement that our Agricultural Ministry come up with a plan and implementation for action on this subject."
