Culture and Tourism Ministry Undersecretary Ismet Yilmaz delivered a speech at the inauguration and said, "September could be described as the 'Spanish Culture Month' in Istanbul because Spanish Prime Minister (Jose Luis Rodriguez) Zapatero paid a visit, the Salvador Dali exhibition was inaugurated and finally the dresses of 12 Spanish designers are being exhibited."

The exhibition titled "12 Dresses for Istanbul: Fashion's Comment on Literature by Spanish Designers," was first organized in Tokyo and Beijing, and has now moved to Istanbul with some alterations. It includes specially crafted dresses by Spanish designers such as Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Devota & Lomba, Francis Montesinos, Victorio & Lucchino, Amaya Arzuaga, Alma Aguilar, Ailanto, Spastor, Juan Duyos, Miriam Ocariz, Davidelfin and Lydia Delgado.

The outfits are inspired by the works of world-renowned Spanish writers, including Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Alvaro Mutis, Juan Gelman, Carlos Fuentes, Miguel Delibes, Jose Angel Valente and Carmen Martin Gaite. The aim of the exhibition is to introduce Spanish language and culture to Turkey.

As this year is the 40th anniversary of the publication of Nobel laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez's "One Hundred Years of Solitude," the exhibition was dedicated to him.

The exhibition will run for one month.
