ISTANBUL - Turkey yesterday reacted to the news that an American firm will start oil exploration in the southwest part of the island of Cyprus.

The Foreign Ministry released a statement saying, “Actions such as these that lack legal basis and that carry a potential for creating tension are hurting the rights of the Turkish Cypriots to the natural resources of the island.”
