Swedish King Carl XVI Gustav has arrived for a 3 day visit to Turkey, at the invitation of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, accompanied by his wife, Queen Silvia, as well as by what sources report is an entourage that includes a cook, a hairdresser, a waiter, and tens and tens of luggage pieces.
The visit by the Swedish royal couple is the first by a Swedish royalty to Turkey in 300 years. The plane carrying King Gustav and Queen Silvia landed at Ankara's Esenboga airport last night, followed by a separate plane carrying members of their private entourage, as well as top level representatives from Swedish companies such as Ikea, Saab, Volvo, and Ericcson.
King Carl XVI Gustav, after official meetings with President Sezer today, is expected to go on to pay a visit to Ephesus, and from there to Istanbul. The Swedish king and queen are also expected to pay a visit to the site outside of Ephesus where the Virgin Mary is said to have lived for awhile shortly before her death.
