NEW YORK - The Phoenix Suns rallied from a 16-point deficit to edge the Oklahoma City Thunder 99-98 on Tuesday, the defeat marking a 12th straight setback for the reeling home team.

Matt Barnes sank a three-pointer with 25.7 seconds remaining to complete the Suns comeback, as the Thunder missed two shots in the dying seconds to make new coach Scott Brooks' home debut a losing one.

Brooks took over after P.J. Carlesimo was fired on Saturday. Oklahoma City is now 0-2 under Brooks and a woeful 1-14 overall, but the former assistant refuses to be discouraged.

"The process is in place," Brooks told reporters. "We just have to continue to figure out some things and work on our execution."

The Thunder led by as many as 16 points late in the third quarter but Steve Nash led the Suns on a 13-0 run to get back into the game.

Back to rhythm

"We're finally kind of getting back to a rhythm that we had without Shaquille O’Neal," Nash said. "Terry's [coach Porter] been urging us to get back there. We have spent a lot of time working on the other stuff and we've lost our rhythm there a little bit. We found it a bit tonight."

Phoenix (10-5) won its second straight game, rallying from a 54-41 halftime deficit and out-scoring the Thunder 29-17 in the fourth quarter.

Amare Stoudemire led the Suns with 22 points, while Nash just missed a triple-double with 20 points, 15 assists and eight rebounds.

"He looked like old Steve," Barnes said of Nash’s performance. "We need Steve just to play his game for us to be the best team we can be and tonight he did that."

Kevin Durant had 29 points to lead Oklahoma City, which is 1-8 in home games since relocating from Seattle in the off-season.
