OECD: Lifting severance pay will create jobs

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has echoed the World Bank’s suggestion that Turkey abolish severance pay in order to create jobs.

The Confederation of Employers’ Unions of Turkey (TISK) said Turkish labor laws discourage businesses from hiring more workers. It recommends lifting severance pay and replacing it with unemployment benefits to increase employment in turkey. The statement was a reaction to the OECD’s 2006 Economic Survey on Turkey, published in October.
