Lebanon's pro-Syrian prime minister resigns

Failing to put together a new government, Lebanon's pro-syrian Prime Minister- designate Omar Karami has resigned just one month before parliamentary elections are due to be held in May. Karami handed in his letter of resignation to Lebanon's President Emile Lahood on Monday, Lahood has not yet accepted the resignation. Karami was asked to form a new government following the mass demonstrations that took hold of the Lebanese capital, Beruit, since the killing of former prime minister, Rafik Hariri. However Karami said that although he had wanted to lead a new government, he has not been able to put together a new cabinet. Speaking to the press on Wednesday, Omar Karami said, "We did all we could to meet the opposition halfway." Â
