On his last visit to Bozcaada, Prime Minister Erdoğan asked the county commissioner Salih Güner whether the district had a youth wing. On hearing that none existed, the PM apparently pointed to Costa Salto and said, “Here is the leader of the youth wing.”

Expressing that he is a Turkish citizen of Christian faith, Salto said, “People ask me, ‘But you’re a Greek, what are you doing with the AKP?’

“That has nothing to do with it. I don’t regard things as a member of the AKP, a Turk, or a Greek. There is one world and everybody lives inside it. It doesn’t matter whether I’m in Turkey, France or Greece. This is how I see the matter,” Salto said.
