Denktas: Without Turkey, We Do Not Accept Even Heaven

The 80th Anniversary of the declaration of the Republic of Turkey was celebrated in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as well. Turkish Cypriot President Rauf Denktas devoted a big part of his speech in the ceremonies, to UN Plan and drew a parallelism between the Annan Plan and Sevres Treaty (which was imposed on the Ottoman Empire after the World War I).Denktas called on the voters to refrain from voting for the opposition in the elections in December. Denktas said, “The Annan Plan is a shroud. It is a kind of Sevres Treaty. Tear this shroud!” Regarding the membership in EU, Denktas said, “We will not accept even heaven if Turkey is not there.”Denktas also gave the message that he would not sit at the negotiation table with Greek Cypriot Leader Tasos Papadopulos before elections.�
