Emel Etem Toshkova, Bulgaria's deputy prime minister and minister of the environment, said that EU-member state would stand by Turkey's side in its own EU accession process.
"As a party in charge of the administration of a country we are aware of our role", Etem said. "As we perform our duties, the EU will keep a close eye on our work, and will understand how Turkish people living in Bulgaria take part in the running of the country and how much responsibility they take on. Turks living in Bulgaria have the task of acting as a bridge between the two countries."
Emel Etem is of Turkish descent and represents ethnic Bulgarian Turks in Parliament as a member of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms.
