EU commission opens first chapter for Turkey

The long process of Turkey's EU membership has begun, officially accepted back in October 2005, the European commission on Tuesday recommended opening the first of 35 chapters of detailed admission talks with Turkey and Croatia. Turkey is to start detailed negotiations on science and research – this chapter is said to be one of the least complex of the 35 chapters. Turkey's accession talks were accepted in October 2005 after overcoming difficulties with Austria.
