Villagers held Obama posters streaked with blood from the sacrificed sheep that read "you are one of us" and "we love you", in Cavustepe village in the province of Van, bordering Iran.

In predominantly Muslim Turkey, this practice is believed to protect people or property against bad luck.

Obama’s election and his Muslim family ties have excited the villagers. Kulaz says Obama’s election was "proof of an end to racism in the world", Abdulkerim Kulaz of Cavustepe village was quoted by Dogan News agency as saying.Â
