“Minds are confused. It is the same in Europe as well. There is a heated debate in France and Germany on turban nowadays…Both France and Germany are taking steps toward banning turban in public places. Both countries are trying to solve the issue within the framework of law. However, it is a political issue in Turkey.
“There are rulings of the European Court for Human Rights (ECHR) on turban. A teacher (not a Turkish origin one) living in Switzerland goes to school with turban. The school administration objects to the situation and the teacher appeals to the ECHR, which, in the end, decides that the school administration was right, as the teacher disturbs the impartiality in public places. The decision continues; Infants should be protected from religious influences and symbols. Moreover such an attitude violates equality of men and women.
“…There is also such a case from Turkey regarding a turbaned student…The decision that ECHR will take will be a precedent for Turkey…I wish Sezer had awaited this decision before making a discrimination. Making political discrimination does not go with a President!”
