US President George W. Bush’s security consultant Stephan Hadley has paid a visit to Ankara, bringing an important messaged from the President. Hadley conversed with PM Tayyip Erdoğan for almost two hours before meeting General Hilmi Özkök, National Security Council General Secretary Yiğit Alpogan and Ministry of Foreign Affairs undersecretary Ali Tuygan.

Two years ago President Bush had declared that Turkey was no longer a strategic partner. The main feeling of the new message could be described as “re-building strategic partnership, starting with a blank page, forgetting Turkey’s decision on not sending troops to Iraq, fighting terrorism together and implementing democracy.”

The Bush administration will also take a more determined stance against the PKK, it has emerged. Hadley said: “The President shares the pain caused by PKK terrorism.  Everyday US soldiers are dying because of terrorism. But we will eradicate the PKK from Northern Iraq – you can be sure of that.”

Hadley also said US was against a Kurdish state in the region and advised Turkey to be “patient”.
