Dünyanın dört bir yanından 351 akademisyen ve üniversite yöneticisi, 'Barış İçin Akademisyenler İnisiyatifi’nin yayımladığı bildirinin ardından Türkiye'de yaşanan gelişmelere ilişkin kaygılarını ve Türk hükümetinden isteklerini bir açık mektup yazarak ifade etti.

Bir bölümü Harvard ve Columbia da dahil olmak üzere, saygın eğitim kurumlarında görev yapan 351 akademisyen ve üniversite yöneticisinin imzasıyla yazılan ortak mektupta, Türk hükümetinden şu isteklerde bulunuldu:

• Hükümet politikalarını kamusal alanda eleştiren kişilerin (“Bu Suça Ortak Olmayacağız” bildirisini imzalayanlar da dahil olmak üzere) tehdit, eziyet ve soruşturmaya maruz bırakılmalarına son verilmesi;

• 1980’lerde askeri rejiminin yaratmış olduğu Yüksek Öğrenim Kurumu'nun; tüm yüksek öğrenim kurumlarının bilimsel araştırma ve eğitim işlevlerini gerçekleştirmelerine yardımcı olması amaçlanarak, siyasi parti ve hükümet kontrolünden uzak, tamamıyla bağımsız bir koordinasyon kurumu olarak yeniden düzenlenmesi;

• Ülkenin bağlı bulunduğu hukuk devleti ve demokrasi ilkelerine, ve özellikle düşünce, anlatım ve basın özgürlükleri başta olmak üzere, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Anayasası'nda ve Türkiye’nin taraf olduğu uluslararası anlaşmalarda koruma altına alınmış olan tüm insan haklarına saygı duyulması;

• Haziran 2015 seçimleri öncesinde hükümet tarafından siyasi amaçlarla terk edilen “barış süreci”nin yeniden başlatılması.
