This follows events last Sunday when one newborn died and 10 others had to be readmitted to the hospital. All the infants were born after July 1 in the public hospital of Bursa’s İnegöl district, and all had difficulty breathing after they were discharged.
İnegöl hospital’s maternity ward was closed temporarily by the local health administration, and the surviving infants were sent to the public hospital in Dörtçelik. Authorities at the Dörtçelik public hospital have said the infants were in the intensive care unit and their conditions were stable. The authorities said the infants will be kept in intensive care for three or four more days. In July of last year, 27 newborns died in a period of two weeks, mostly from infection, at Zekai Tahir Burak Hospital in Ankara. In September, 13 premature infants died in the intensive-care unit of Tepecik Hospital in İzmir.
