Turkish national swimmer, Cenk Devrim Ulusoy, broke a world diving record on Sunday.

Ulusoy swam to a depth of 83 meters to break a new world free diving record off the coast of Kemer town in the Mediterranean province of Antalya.

Umberto Pellizzari of Italy was the previous world record holder diving to 80 meters.

Ulusoy stayed two minutes 24 seconds under water to break the world free diving record.

Born in Istanbul in 1973, Ulusoy took up sports when he was five and a half years old and became a national Turkish athlete when he was just nine.

He began training for free diving in 2002, and broke his first official world record in a world championship in Tenerife, Spain.

Ulusoy has broken three world records in the "jump blue" category.
