The financial markets in Turkey broke records this week with the start of EU accession talks in Luxembourg. The Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB) hit a peak 35,642 points Tuesday, with a record number of transactions taking place. Not just domestic but international markets too saw Turkish Euro bonds rise to record levels.

Following the start to talks, yesterday morning at the IMKB began on a positive note. The exchange began the day at a record 35,500 point index, and continued rising, never falling below the start point. The rise of the IMBK over the day was supported in part by 2.1 billion dollars in transactions, a record for the year so far. Analysts watching the markets say they expect the IMKB to hit the 36 thousand point level at some point over the next days, with a longer term march towards the 40 thousand point index on the horizon
