    Turkish rescue teams save five quake victims

    Turkish search and rescue teams arrived in Pakistan to help in efforts to extend aid to the quake struck region of Muzaffarabad on Sunday. Five persons have been rescued from under the rubble by the Turkish teams, who worked for 16 hours, the bodies of two dead were also recovered from under the debris, said the Turkish Prime Ministry Emergency Management Centre on Sunday. Three military planes carrying one rescue vehicle, 11 tons of aid material as well as 53 personnel from the Turkish security forces, Civil defense Directorate general and Kizilay (the Turkish branch of the Red Cross).

    An estimated 18,000 people have been killed by the 7.6 magnitude quake and over 41,000 are injured, officials have announced. Serious landfalls and fires have caused extreme damage in the surrounding regions. The quake occurred at 08:50 a.m. local time Saturday and was felt in neighbouring countries India and Afghanistan – New Delhi and Kabul were among the cities to feel it.
