A Turkish mother, whose two-year old son was shot dead when a row broke out in a cafe in Foca 2003, received an award Sunday for her efforts in campaigning to change Turkish gun laws. Ozlem Grimason, a native Turk now living in Scotland, was given the NCH Woman of Influence 2005 award for campaigning to raise the penalty for such crimes that unfortunately have in the past been seen as an accident and have gone unpunished.

The Grimasons collected 200,000 signatures which were presented to the Turkish government.

Daima Akyuz, who was found guilty of the killing, is now serving a prison sentence for 36 years.
