A Turkish Journalist-author, Altemur Kılıç, has filed a complaint at the Istanbul Prosecutors Office demanding that prominent Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk be penalized on the bases of aiding a terrorist organization and encouraging separatism. "The opening of a public trial against Pamuk, who accused Turkey in an interview of killing 1 million Armenians and 30,000 Kurds, due to humiliating and insulting the Turks, made me very happy as a Turkish citizen," said Kılıç in a petition sent to the Şişli Prosecutor's Office. Kılıç even praised the prosecutor's attitude towards the issue.

Kılıç said that his father and uncle were witnesses to the situation and therefore claims that he has an authority on what happened some what: It's my duty to fight these lies. The killing of 30,000 Kurds is a lie, and it's apparent that our 30,000 soldiers, police officers and citizens fell as martyrs as a result of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) acts. When this is the situation, Pamuk, who claims he's a Turkish novelist, should not be left with what he had said by distorting the truth and publicly humiliating our nation in front of the world. In addition to being tried due to insulting the Turkish identity, he should be tried on grounds of aiding the terrorist PKK/Kongra-Gel and inciting separatism because the PKK and separatists use such claims as a justification and excuse for their bloody acts."

Armenians claim that at the end of the Ottoman Empire, up to 1.5 million of their kinsmen died. However, modern day Turkey argues that 300,000 Armenians and thousands of Turks were killed in what was civil strife during World War I.
