A Turkish court on Thursday decided to summarize reading the 2,455-page Ergenekon indictment, in which 86 people are accused of membership to a group that allegedly plotted to overthrow Turkey's Islamist-rooted government, in order to accelerate the process.

The 13th High Criminal Court in Istanbul read up to page-237 the indictment on the fifth day of the trial, the Anatolian Agency reported, after a decision was taken to read only the headlines of some chapters.

The lengthy process of reading the indictment in the trial was expected to take up to a month.

The Ergenekon operation was launched in June 2007 with the discovery of grenades in a house in Istanbul’s Umraniye district. Since then over one hundred people have been detained in nine waves of arrests in the controversial operation.

Another indictment would be submitted for those detained in the latest waves of the operation, including two retired generals, journalists and a business group leader.
