    Turkish author's life saved by seat change

    Well-known Turkish author Feridun Zaimoglu, who resides in Germany, but who came to Turkey this summer for vacation, narrowly escaped death in a bus accident with her mother. Zaimoglu's scrape with near-death was in a bus accident which claimed the lives of 12 other, but which the writer says both she and her mother were spared in due to a last minute change in seating on their part.

    Said Zaimoglu "Because my mother did not want to sit in the last row, we moved to a middle row seat. After the accident occured, I saw that the people who had been sitting in our real seats were dead." The bus Zaimoglu and the others were traveling in was going from Ankara to Ayvalik. In addition to the 12 people killed, 21 were severely injured.
