    Turkey's Terim names 26-man squad for Euro 2008

    Turkey's national soccer team coach named on Sunday the squad for UEFA Euro 2008 Soccer Championship. In a surprise move Terim did not include veteran Turkish forward Hakan Sukur in the squad. (UPDATED)

    The 26-man squad, named for the championship by Fatih Terim, was made public on the website of the Turkish Football Federation.

    Turkey will compete in Group A against Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Portugal.   

    The tournament will kick off with Group A games on June 7 and Turkey will go on its first match against Portugal in Geneva, Switzerland.

    Turkey's squad is as follows:   

    Goalkeepers: Volkan Demirel (Fenerbahce), Rustu Recber (Besiktas), Tolga Zengin (Trabzonspor).    

    Defenders: Gokhan Gonul (Fenerbahce), Sabri Sarioglu (Galatasaray), Gokhan Zan (Besiktas), Ibrahim Kas (Besiktas), Emre Asik (Ankaraspor), Servet Cetin (Galatasaray), Hakan Kadir Balta (Galatasaray), Ugur Boral (Fenerbahce).

    Midfielders: Mehmet Aurelio (Fenerbahce), Mehmet Topal (Galatasaray), Tumer Metin (Larissa), Hamit Altintop (Bayern Munchen), Ayhan Akman (Galatasaray), Kazim Kazim (Fenerbahce) Tuncay Sanli (Middlesbrough FC), Arda Turan (Galatasaray), Emre Belozoglu (Newcastle United FC), Yildiray
    Basturk (VfB Stuttgart).

    Forwards: Gokdeniz Karadeniz (Rubin Kazan), Nihat Kahveci (Villarreal CF), Semih Senturk (Fenerbahce), Halil Altintop (Schalke 04), Mevlut Erdinc (Sochaux).

    Three players will be removed from the squad by May 28 as each nation must submit a squad of 23 players, three of which must be goalkeepers.
