    TURKEY'S CURRENT ACCOUNT DEFICIT RISES 45.6 PCT IN JAN-AUG

    Turkey's current account deficit increased 46.5 percent in the first eight months of 2008 compared to the same period of last year and rose to $34.8 billion, Turkey's central bank announced on Wednesday. (UPDATED)

    The current account deficit for January-August period was $23.7 billion in 2007. 

    The current account deficit also rose by 101.7 percent in August to reach $3.3 billion compared with $1.6 billion recorded in the same month of the 2007.

    According to the figures, the foreign trade deficit in the balance of payments presentation increased 42.3 percent to $6.4 billion and services surplus rose by 14.1 percent to $3.6 billion. Net outflows in income item increased by 22.7 percent to $627 million, while net inflows in the current transfers item recorded $146 million with a 34.2 percent decrease over the same month of 2007.
