Turkey's Elvan Abeylegesse won Friday an Olympic silver medal in the women's 5,000 meters in Beijing. (UPDATED)

Turkey's 10,000m silver medallist Abeylegesse won a second Olympic silver in the women's 5,000 meters at the Beijing Olympics.

Ethiopia's Tirunesh Dibaba won gold medal for the first long-distance running double in 28 years.

Dibaba, who last week won the 10,000m, finished in 15min 41.40sec, with Abeylegesse claiming silver in 15:42.74.

Defending champion Meseret Defar finished in bronze medal position at 15:44.12.

Dibaba's double is a landmark for women athletes and the first since male compatriot Miruts Yifter's feat over the same events at the 1980 Moscow Games.

Turkey's Yakup Kilic won the bronze medal in the men's 57 kg featherweight boxing earlier in the day.
