Turkey will have a scientific research center similar to the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland.

A tender will be held at the end of October for institute and laboratories of the "Turkish Accelerator Center" (TAC) which will be established with the support of State Planning Organization (DPT).

TAC will consist of different GeV scale electron, positron and proton accelerators to study experimental particle and nuclear physics and to produce synchrotron radiation and free electron lasers to use in basic and applied sciences.

Project Coordinator Prof. Dr. Omer Yavas told the Anatolian Agency that feasibility and infrastructure studies of the TAC project have been completed at a great extent and that the TAC project was expected to be completed by 2011.

Turkey’s center would be the first one of its kind in the region, Yavas said.
