Video images aired on Star TV's "Deciphered" program two nights ago have caused shock reverberations throughout Turkey. The images, filmed by a concealed video camera, show children in the Malatya Childrens' Orphanage being abused, both physically and verbally, by the women who are supposed to be taking care of them.

Reaction to the shocking sights in the orphanage was such that by one in the morning last night, a group of 150 or so Malatya residents had gathered outside the building, demanding that the women responsible for the abuse be brought outside to face them.

Following the airing of the abuse segment on "Deciphered," it was announced that the regional director of the Social Services Department which runs the Malatya orphanage, as well the orphanage director himself and two nurses who work there, had been suspended from their positions. The Malatya Republic Prosecutor has reportedly begun an official investigation into the Malatya Orphanage.

Speaking about the incidents filmed at the orphanage, Malatya Governor Osman Kadioglu said "The people who did these things are not human."
