    Turkey doing more to protect women's rights

    The Turkish government has promised to do more to protect women's rights In line with the European Union's said a spokesperson for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) this week. State Minister Guldal Aksit said, "Strengthening the position of women in society is on our agenda. Every woman must have rights and feel equal in society. We are putting in place new legislation that will do exactly that." When questioned on the subject of honor killings Aksit said, "The new Turkish Penal Code will ensure that any man found guilty of honor killings will be sentenced to the maximum punishment in Turkey, life imprisonment.
