According to professor Dr. Nurgun Oktit, who lectures at Mugla university, Turkey is 66th on the world’s suicide list. Oktit is head of the Suicide Research Commission and is planning to present his research in a book, which will be published in the coming days.

Assoc.Prof. Oktik said, “The problem seems unimportant when compared to other countries, however the norms and values in our country oblige us to keep suicide events secret and this makes the suicide statistics unhealthy. Given that suicide statistics have been accounted since 1967, the rates’ tendency to increase requires close attention to the problem."
Oktit added, "For instance, the rough rate has increased by 20 percent in the last 10-years. According to the World Health Organization data, one million people all over the world committed suicide in 2000."
