    TGS becomes member of EFJ

    The Labor Union of Turkish Journalists (TGS) became a member of the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ). Releasing a statement on Thursday, TGS said that EFJ accepted TGS'application for membership.

    Brussels-based EFJ is a regional organization of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) in Europe since 1965. It is created under the IFJ Constitution to defend the interests of journalists' unions and their members. EFJ is Europe's largest organization of  journalists, representing about 280.000 journalists in over thirty countries.

    EFJ fights for social and professional rights of journalists working in all sectors of mass media.

    EFJ is accredited by the European Union, the Council of Europe and the European Trade Union Confederation as the representative of journalists in Europe.

    Meanwhile, EFJ's annual meeting to be held in Bilbao, Spain, between April 3rd and 4th, 2005 will focus on ''Media, Quality and Journalists' Rights in the European Union and Beyond: How can we Make a Difference?''
