The student amnesty bill that was vetoed by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer last week after failing to reach the 330 majority vote needed to qualify, was approved by Parliament's Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Commission, yesterday. The bill, which is hailed by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan as a "social project", needs a 330 majority vote to pass at the General Assembly. Erdogan urged AKP deputies to attend the General Assembly meeting next week to guarantee the bill passes.
