Speaker of the Turkish Parliament (TBMM), Bulent Arinc, told reporters in Manisa yesterday that a letter from Ankara to Yerevan proposing the formation of a joint commission on the so-called Armenian genocide matter has received a positive response from Armenian President Robert Kocharian. Arinc said that was likely that sometime in the near future, Turkey and Armenia would be working to put together a group of people to work on the commission. Arinc also noted that Turkey was not embarrassed of its history, and that it was willing to open all of its documents and archives to inspection.  Talks about his youth in Manisa Arinc also spoke to reporters about growing up in Manisa as it relates to the Armenian question: "I am from Manisa, but I went to primary school with Krikor's son Samuel in Elazig. They were known as faithful members of society, and they lived without problems there. Because of certain events in 1915, a forced relocation law was put into effect, and there were many sorrowful incidents that occured. But we never ever carried out a genocide like what the Germans carried out against the Jewish people. We only had laws forcing Armenian people to migrate from areas where they were engaged in revolutionary tactics."
