Iraqi officials reported Sunday that in a gesture of goodwill, Syria has given up Iraq's "most wanted leader of the insurgency", Sab'awi Ibrahim al-Hasan. Al-Hasan, Saddam Hussein's half brother, was captured and handed over to Iraq in an attempt to end months of rumors that Syria is backing terrorism in the region.

Syria has been accused of harboring fugitives from the former Bath Party, many see this as a move to finally put an end to these rumors.

Al-Hasan, who shares a mother with Saddam, was captured along with 29 other members of the ousted Saddam Bath Party 50 kilometers from the Iraqi border.

The arrest comes with a warm welcome from Iraqis and is seen as the latest move in recent attempts to crush the insurgency in Iraq.
