Two retired Turkish military officials have reacted to assertions that the controversial April 27 "e-communique" made by the military headquarters over the internet was responsible for the raise in the general vote for the ruling Justice and Development (AKP) Party, which has once again won the general elections.

Former top commander and head of the military's General Staff headquarters, General Dogan Gures, has accused those of making these sorts of assertions of being "enemies of the military" and "lacking in manners." Former top commander General Hursit Tolon said that the opposition parties were trying hide their own "lack of capability" by making these assertions.

Commented former General Tolon, "I find these sorts of assertions very absurd. This is all they could find to say. The opposition parties are trying to hide their own insufficiencies behind this sort of blaming. The trust for the military in this nation is actually at a higher level than the combined votes for all the political parties."
