It has been revealed that Prime Minister Erdoğan’s Foreign Policy adviser, Ahmet Davutoğlu was the architect of the Palestinian Leader Mesal's visit to Ankara on Thursday, a meeting which caused much controversy throughout the international community this week. Davutoğlu put forward the theory that “In playing an active role in the Middle-East, Turkey should become a significant power.” Davutoglu convinced Erdoğan, that “For this reason, Turkey should become a country with authority and power, whose opinion counts, even if Turkey does not play the role of conciliator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

    Joint decision in cabinet

The Hamas visit was discussed and accepted during Monday’s meeting of the Board of MPs. This is why the meeting went on for such a long time. Sources close to the government said that, “This was perhaps the first time a joint decision was made in agreement, everyone putting their heads together – something which has previously remained theoretical and never been put into practice.”
