A remembrance ceremony for six martyred Turkish soldiers, the first of its type to be held in 47 years, was held in Istanbul yesterday. The soldiers were killed, while they slept in a military station at Sehzadebasi Karakolu, March 16, 1920, during the British occupation. The Governor of Istanbul, Muammer Güler, Army Commander Full General Hursit Tolon and Istanbul City Municipality President Kadir Topbas attended the ceremony. The revival of the ceremony was in some ways seen to be a protest against recent EU pressure relating to the Armenian ‘genocide’ in Turkey.
