    PWD and PKK cooperated in Fidan killing

    Hurriyet can reveal that representatives of the Patriotic Democrat Party (PWD) cooperated with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terror organization over the murder of Kurdish activist Hikmet Fidan. Veysi Akgonul, a suspect in the case, said that he would have been killed had he refused to hand over Fidan to the PKK and admitted that he and his colleagues had turned over Fidan to the PKK: "PKK militants threatened to kill me if I refuse to give Fidan to them," said Akgonul.

    The second suspect in connection to the killing, Firat Karahan, sadi that the main goal of the PKK was to scare the PWD activists and to silence members of the PWD in Diyarbakir, "Following the murder, Osman Ocalan, the founder of PWD, decided to leave the organization."

    The murderer of Fidan has been identified and is hiding out in a rural area of Diyarbakir.

    The PWD is known to be a splinter group of the PKK, with former members from the terrorist group setting up an alternative party to taht of the PKK.
